同時,市區內5百萬輛汽車所排放的廢熱與空氣污染物質,至少會有50%進入到透水鋪面之下(Liu et al., 2012),因此北京市空氣品質會顯著改善至少50%。其乃因為高承載高透水鋪面之下的濕地形成之故,包括至少捕捉汽車排放70% CO2(Liu et al., 2012)。因此,假設北京汽車數量是5百萬量,年平均里程是1.5萬公里,假設每部車的平均二氧化碳排放量是236g/km,則年總二氧化碳排放量是17.7百萬噸,因此高承載高透水道路約每年捕捉12.4百萬噸二氧化碳,其乃是直接促進地下生態系統發展所需的無機碳。
