Coral Research: Survey on Biodiversity of Algae Eaters as Indicator Fishes

Duration:2024 until now  Updated:2024/06/21

Effective coral restoration relies on the increase of algae-eating fishes, which play a vital role in maintaining the health of coral communities. As more algae-eating fish gather in the new restoration area, existing coral communities experience reduced stress, and the newly grown corals can thrive with moderate cleaning, thus enhancing their survival rate.

For this research, we will select two locations: Chaojing Bay Resource Conservation Area and Delta's Coral Restoration Base in Changtan Fishing Port. To assess the coral reef fish community, the research team will employ a diving survey methodology to analyze species composition, resource quantity, and distribution information at each survey station. This data will be instrumental in evaluating the community index and conducting a comprehensive analysis of fish populations at each station, with the aim of gaining valuable insights into the effectiveness of our coral restoration efforts.
