Toward nature positive: Delta Nurturing Life on the Earth Film Festival

2023/10/01

Half of the world's GDP is dependent on nature, and the impacts of climate change on global biodiversity cannot be ignored. This year, the Delta Electronics Foundation has partnered with the renowned UK organization Wildscreen, popularly known as the Green Oscars, to introduce internationally acclaimed high-resolution nature documentaries. These documentaries are screening across Taiwan as part of the 4K/8K "Nurturing Life on the Earth" film festival.

The documentaries of the film festival include "Frozen Planet II and A Perfect Planet: Humans"  by the BBC, "Path of the Panther", a recipient of the prestigious Jackson Wild Media Award, "After the Wildfires", depicting catastrophic Australia's wildfires,  "Chasing the Rains", showcasing one of the most severe droughts in the last two decades, and "Ireland's Wild Islands", exploring biodiversity through sailboat adventures. These films aim to raise awareness among the public about Taiwan's own biodiversity issues, with screenings featuring award-winning entries from the 2ns Taiwan Ecological and Environmental Film Festival.

The Delta Electronics Foundation, designated as the "Nature Positive Partner" for the 2nd Taiwan Ecological and Environmental Film Festival, hosted the "Nurturing Life on the Earth" film festival from 8th to 10th September at the Nanmen Branch of the National Taiwan Museum. This event encourages filmmakers to delve into 8K/4K productions on biodiversity issues. Through these screenings, the concept of biodiversity and climate change has brought closer to the Taiwanese audience.

The award-winning films are projected using Delta's state-of-the-art 4K Ultra High-Definition (UHD) RGB laser projectors, offering audiences a true-to-life experience of the beauty witnessed by the production teams, including intricate details like the delicate wings of butterflies and the majestic presence of whales. Director Pin-ju Yan, the recipient of the Best Documentary Feature Award for When World's Collide: "A Formosan Black Bear's Deadly Dance with Civilization"  praised the 4K projectors, stating, "The 4K projectors deliver an incredibly smooth and clear display, with true-to-life colors." This high-quality projection has inspired many Taiwanese filmmakers to explore the realm of ultra-high-definition filmmaking.

During the film festival, Mr. Wim Chang, the CEO of the Delta Electronics Foundation, shared insights into how high-resolution documentaries contribute to environmental education. The event also featured a panel discussion with a prominent guest, former Director-General of the Central Weather Bureau, Ming-Dean Cheng, who discussed the impact of Pacific warming on climate and wildfires.
