To receive a positive social return on investment given its size, the Foundation must make the use of resources as focused and strategic as possible. Starting in 2004, the Foundation began setting forth program guidelines to narrow the focus of what it invests in and demands results from.
Programs/Proposals funded or initiated by the Foundation concentrate efforts in the following directions:
Energy Efficient Architecture

Buildings form the foundation of civilization. To create a quality of life that is in harmony with nature, green building concepts have been increasingly popular in recent years. The big questions are: how can we apply systematic reasoning into the planning and construction of buildings that break down the barriers between us and nature; that have the least negative impact on the surrounding environment; and that provide residents with the healthiest living environment? There is still a vast amount of potential to be explored in answering these questions.

Delta Electronics Foundation believes that promoting green building projects will work towards cultivating more talented personnel and provide more models for others to follow. Through the sharing of knowledge and energies these green building foundations can continue to solidify.

Project 1:
Home Energy Conservation Plan

Taiwan’s residential sector electricity consumption constitutes about 20% of the nation’s total electricity consumption. Thus, since 2005 the Foundation has been focusing efforts on improving residential energy conservation. In 2005 and 2007, respectively, we cooperated with Agenda 21 and Green Habitat Association to promote the “Home Energy Savings Retrofit Plan” and the “Energy Conservation Home Retrofit Plan.” These plans provided subsidies for improving hardware and setting up home energy resource conservation hands-on workshops. These measures helped empower residents with better skills and the initiative to implement energy conservation reforms without sacrificing the comforts of living (in fact, quite often increasing the level of comfort) to achieve the environmental objectives of energy conservation and carbon reduction. Also, since residential consumption of energy is directly related to architectural design and water and electricity infrastructure, practical applications of home energy conservation experiences will grow over time. In the long term, we are optimistic that the statistical data and techniques accumulated will inspire Taiwan’s construction, water and electricity, and other related service industries to come up with innovative approaches that further contribute to home energy conservation objectives.

In the short term, the Foundation’s goal is to continue building upon the home energy conservation application experiences with hopes of developing a reform plan most suitable for Taiwan’s environment, and one that utilizes its existing architecture. These vital plans will be placed on a website and clearly introduced and open to the public very soon. The long-term objective is to continue extending support and collaboration with groups in mutual pursuit of new energy conservation methods suitable for Taiwan’s residential infrastructure. These efforts will establish Taiwan’s home energy conservation culture and increase the overall quality of life in Taiwan.

Project 2:

Green Building Project: Beitou Library

Residential, industrial, and transportation are three major areas of energy consumption. Among these, buildings are places where people spend a large proportion of their time, directly impacting quality of life. In light of this reality, since 2005 the Foundation has focused on promoting green buildings, which comprise ecology, health, energy conservation and waste reduction.

The Foundation is currently cooperating with the Taipei City Public Library Beitou Branch, which is itself constructed with green building concepts, to establish a green building library that also serves as a green building concept promotional center. Presently, the Beitou Library Green Building Section has 400 books donated by the Foundation. The contents of this literature include green building, green energy resources, green technology, green living, and green environment. Periodically experts are invited to provide green building concepts and workshops designed to bring green building theories to life and promote practical applications.
